Merge Grid Question Now Available

Merged Grid questions are designed to handle situations when you want to ask more than one rating scale grid question at the same time. They allow you to place more than one grid question side-by-side on the same survey page. For example, you may want respondents to indicate satisfaction levels and importance to them personally. In such a case, you can use the Merged Grid Question feature to do so.

  1. Create two grid questions, such as row questions.
  2. Create a third question that immediately follows the previous grid questions. The merge grid question is available from the Question menu: Select a Question Type>Merge Grid>Select Questions to Merge.
  3. Select the two grid questions that you want to display next to each other.
  4. Below the Number of Line Spaces between Questions field, a dropdown menu is displayed. Select Merge Grid, the last option on this menu.
  5. Save your question. To see the results, go into the first grid question and test it.
  6. If the questions aren't aligned properly, paste the following script into the Merge Grid Question's custom script area. Click on the Create a Custom Script field to do so:

<style>
TD {height:85;}
#tdPM {height:20;}
#GridHeaderColumn {height:20;}
#GridHeaderRow {height:20;}
</style>

The setting to change is the TD height. Change this up or down as needed.

Support Goes "Live"

If you have been on SurveyWriter's Web site lately, you will notice an important new Support feature.

SurveyWriter has installed a new "Live Chat" feature on the "Features" and "About" pages of the Web site, that is designed to give SurveyWriter users one more way to connect with our Support Department to answer questions or solve problems. Live Chat is available 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, Central Standard Time. After this initial rollout, this feature will soon be added internally, in the SurveyWriter application.

Some questions may be better handled through email or over the phone. If this is the case, the operator will ask to switch over to those options.

Anchoring a response in a rotating list

  1. Load the question in which you are randomizing the list.
  2. Make sure that the answer option you want to remain stationary is in correct place in the list. In other words, if you are randomizing a list and the last option is "None" and you would like the none to stay anchored at the bottom of the list, make sure that the "None" option is the last item in the list.
  3. Click on the Set Answer Options menu item.
  4. Select Format Answer Options.
  5. On the Answer Option table, the first column in the table is labeled "Options."
  6. Find the label to anchor and click the iQ button.
  7. From the option window, select Anchor Label and click Save.
    Click Save on the Format Answer Options window and then make sure to Save your question.
  8. The label that you enabled the "Anchor" for will now stay stationary as the other labels rotate.

Adding a new label to a piping question

Occasionally, you may want to add a new label to a piping question. For example, you may want to add the label, "none of the above" to the child or piped question response list. To enable you to alert SurveyWriter that you've added a new label, SurveyWriter provides the NL command from the Insert Options window. The following is an example of adding a new label to a response list for a piping question. The new label is "none of the above."

Original or Parent Question Response List:

1=Red
2=Blue
3=Green
4=Yellow

Child or Piped Question Response List:

1=Red
2=Blue
3=Green
4=Yellow
5=None of the above\NL; (new label added)

  1. To alert SurveyWriter to the new label, select Set Answer Options>Format Answer Options from the Question menu.
  2. Click iO next to the new label you've added.
  3. Click New Label.
