Insert Branch Label Into Answer Option

To insert a branch label into the answer options instead of placing it into the question text, use the keyword *BranchLabel surrounded by the piping characters |. You cannot use the branch symbol, |, by itself.

For example:

1::Yes - I would use |*BranchLabel|
2::No - I would not use |*BranchLabel|

This example creates a multiple selection check box question to use as a parent question. Next, a follow-up question uses the keyword, *BranchLabel, to insert the branch label into the answers options.

Create Parent Question

  1. Click Select a Question Type>Standard Questions>Multiple Selection Check Boxes from the Question menu.
  2. Save the Question Options screen.
  3. Create your question text and answer options Set Question Text and Set Answer Options. Click Add Codes Ascending to assign values to the response options.
  4. Save the question.

Create Follow-Up Question

  1. Click Select a Question Type>Standard Questions>Single Choice Radio Button from the Question menu.

  1. Click iQ to select the Branch Parent Question, for example, Q11.
  2. Enter 5 as the number of branches.
  3. Click the Last Question checkbox to indicate that no additional branch questions will be asked after this one.
  4. Save the Question Options screen.
  5. Create your question text and answer options using Set Question Text and Set Answer Options. Make sure to insert the keyword, *BranchLabel, between two piping characters.

  1. Click Add Codes Ascending to assign values to the response options.
  2. Save the answer options.
  3. Save the question.

Using Label Files to Import Your Data Into SPSS

The process to download your data into SPSS has been streamlined and improved using SPS label files. Importing your data seamlessly into SPSS is a now two-step process:

  1. First, download a tab delimited file. Click Results > Data Download. Choose Tab Delimited and SPSS Headers as your download options.

  2. Download the SPSS label/syntax file. Click Results > Manage Record Layout > Download SPSS label/syntax file.

The tab delimited file is a .dat file that can be opened in SPSS. You can then import the Label/Syntax file into your SPSS project using the following steps:

  • Start SPSS.
  • Click File Menu> Open > Syntax
  • In the window that opens indicate the location of the syntax file on the computer.  The syntax file has an SPS extension.
  • Once the syntax file is loaded, click Run Menu and select All.

Unless there is a problem, this procedure should load the information into the data editor, and you are ready for analysis.

Support Shorts

Help Files Available Through Other Views

The Help Files have been reformatted into HTML and available for everyone through Other Views on the Main Menu.

Report Filter Adds Versatility to Reports

The report filter available when you run the Topline and Crosstab reports makes these reports much more flexible and powerful.

For example, you can use the filter to run a Topline report that only shows data for males between the ages of 18 to 24.

Use the Report Filter to make the selection criteria for your reports as complex as you need.

Appending Fetch File Information to Data Download

To append Fetch File information onto your data set, select the Append Data option from the Download Data window. Select the number of fields in the Fetch File to download.

The Fetch File fields are displayed at the end of your data set.
