Create Foreign Language Surveys

Q. What is the process for creating foreign language surveys?

A. You handle the whole process internally by downloading the files to be sent to the translation service, receiving them back from the service, uploading them into the project and inserting the translated text. Follow the steps below.

1. Create and finalize your survey in English.
2. Make a copy of the project for each foreign language version. If your Project ID is P101 and you need to make both a French and German version, create two additional projects. Use a naming convention such as "P101_FR" and "P101_DE".

• Select the Copy Existing Project from the Account Administration menu. 
• Select the project to copy.
• A copy of the original project form pops up. Assign it a new Project ID (P101_FR for example) and click Save.
• A complete copy of the project is created, including questions, quotas, reports. No data is copied. 

3. Load the project newly-created project and download the files to send to the translation service. To download the files:

• Click Results Menu from the Main menu.
• Select Download Questions. When the dialog box appears, save this file to your local drive. When saving the file, use the default file name. Do not give it a new name.
• Select Download Survey Options. When the dialog box appears, save this file to your local drive. When saving the file, use the default file name. Do not give it a new name.
• Email both files to your translation service.

4. To upload the translated text when the files are returned from the translation service, do the following:

• Save the files to your local drive.
• Load the project that will be receiving the translated files. If you are going to be uploading the French text, open the French version of the project.
• From the Survey Options menu, select Upload Files.
• Select the translation file from your local drive and save it to your project.

5. To insert the translated text into your project:

• From Survey Options menu, select Insert Translation Text.
• A window appears that display any errors that may occur.
• The process is now complete and all text in this project has now been replaced with foreign language text.
