Cut and Paste From Word
Q. Can I take a Word document and copy and paste to a new survey?
A. Yes, you can cut and paste from an MS Word document directly into SurveyWriter. There are a few points
to consider:
- When you cut and paste from Word into the SurveyWriter Editor, you not
only paste text but also document formatting. The editor understands the Word formats and
translates them into HTML style sheets. This can be convenient (since you will not have to reformat the text using the SurveyWriter
editor). The down-side to this automatic formatting is that some of the styles created are Internet Explorer specific and some early browsers may not render the text correctly. Another consideration is that if you transfer the styles from Word to SurveyWriter the
Font style defined in the Fonts menu is overridden by the style sheets.
- To paste the text only and NOT the formatting, then put the Editor into
HTML mode before pasting the text into the Editor. To put the Editor into HTML mode, click the
HTML button found at the top-left of the Editor window. You can then go back to
WYSIWYG or Normal mode by clicking the Normal button, also located at
the top-left of the Editor window. When you do your editing with the SurveyWriter.com
Editor, the formatting is standardized for all browsers.
- When you are pasting text from Word into the Build Answer Options form, you do not need to worry about formatting. When text is pasted into the area, the formatting is automatically ignored.
- To ensure that the text renders correctly for the widest audience possible,
SurveyWriter recommends pasting the text into HTML mode and then format (if necessary) it using the Editor.
